Abstract:
We performed a 5-year retrospective review of all burns managed by the North Queensland Paediatric Burns Service. The data shows that paediatric burns in Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander’s (ATSI) continue to be disproportionately higher compared to their non-aboriginal or Torres Straight islander counterparts. When compared to paediatric burns data published in the Burns Registry of Australia and New Zealand, the gap in paediatric burns between the two groups is even more substantial with a significantly larger percentage of patients identifying as ATSI requiring admission and surgical intervention in North Queensland.
