Dr Stuart Watson is a Consultant Plastic and Burns Surgeon with a distinguished career based predominantly at the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, UK. Stuart was a leading Consultant in adult and children’s burn care in Scotland, with a Consultant career spanning 26 years. His major interests have included adult and paediatric burn care and reconstructive microsurgery. Stuart has held leadership roles in developing regional and national services, including cancer, trauma and Lead Clinician for Burns in Scotland (development of the Scottish Burn Centre). Stuart has held an executive committee role in the ISBI and was the author for Surgical Management in the ISBI Guidelines for Burn care.

Stuart has inspired many young surgeons to follow a career in Burns and also Plastic Surgery, and in 2016 received the Outstanding Role Model Award from NHS Education for Scotland. In 2018 Stuart received a special award from the President of the Republic of Ghana for development of resources for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns in Ghana. In 2021 Stuart received the Global Citizenship award in recognition of almost 20 years of work with colleagues in Ghana and 10 years in Malawi developing Burns and Plastic Surgery services in those countries.

Stuart is currently an advisor to the WHO and Clinical Chairman for guideline development on Management of Mass Casualty Burn Incidents. He has been an invited speaker at many conferences and events, including recently delivering the distinguished Gilles Lecture for BAPRAS.
