Improving the quality of burn care is a priority for all burn care professionals to ensure that patients are provided the best opportunities for recovery and reintegration following injury. The Burn Registry of Australia & New Zealand (BRANZ) provides ANZBA burn services data relating to their individual performance to peer reviewed, evidence based clinical quality indicators. ANZBA’s Burn Quality Improvement Program, provides a framework for burn centres to improve their QI performance if needed and willing.
One of the BRANZ Quality Indicators “Was there a negative change of >30 ml/min/1.73 m2 of estimated GFR (eGFR) within 72 hours of admission?” is a broad marker of fluid resuscitation adequacy. This presentation will showcase how our service used the Quality Improvement Cycle to understand and improve performance in relation to the eGFR Quality Indicator, and in doing so highlights the potential benefits of BRANZ and BQIP in improving the quality of burn care in our region.
