Abstract:

Fractional CO2 laser therapy and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has emerged as promising treatment modalities for burns scars. A recent systematic review confirmed improvement in scar profiles with few adverse side effects. (Choi et al, Burns 47 (2021) 259-269)

The presentation aim to share our recent experiences of treating 33 patients with a range of hypertrophic and keloid burns scars using combined Fractional CO2 and IPL treatment with the Candela Medical device. All the patients were treated under topical anaesthesia and tolerated the procedure well. The result after one treatment is assessed with POSAS scores and report improvement in the scar profile. There is no complication reported in all the patients.

We conclude it is safe to use combination therapy in the appropriate scars in order to optimise the benefit of laser therapy.
