He introduced eight significant teaching and learning initiatives. Such pedagogies as Scenario-based Learning (simulations), Just in Time Teaching (JiTT was developed in 1997 and is now commonly known as the Flipped Classroom approach) and Interactive Learning Modules (ILMs) have resulted in very positive learning outcomes and enriching the student experience.

He and his family spent 9 years in Hawaii and Texas USA as volunteers working in the College of Communication at the University of the Nations (UofN) part of Youth With A Mission (YWAM). Allan sees his most effective contribution to making a difference in the future is educational consulting and in particular, helping teachers in developing countries use 21st Century learning and teaching methods. This calling has quickly become a full time pursuit and with Glynis, his wife of 39 years, they have commenced their own consultancy called Designing Outcomes.  Glynis and Allan have two adult children and live in Adelaide South Australia.
