Abstract:

While the use of BTM and its short term outcomes in burns has now been widely reported there is scare information regarding its long term scar outcomes using objective scar measurements.

We report the case of a 9 year old male who suffered a full thickness friction burn to the lower limb. BTM was applied following initial debridement prior to eventual autologous split thickness skin grafting.

Scar assessment then occurred at 6 and 12 months post injury using both subjective and objective measures. Subjective measures used were The Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS), Brisbane Burn Scar Impact Profile (BBSIP). Objective scar assessment used were the cutometer, mexameter and ultrasound, these are used to assess scar elasticity, colour and thickness respectively. Clinical photographs will also be taken at these times.

This case report aims to provide some insight into the long term scar outcomes following the use of BTM
