Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are sovereign Australians, having occupied and cared for country since time immemorial. Health and wellbeing determinants for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are multiple, interconnected, unique and different to that of other Australian, and encompass the cultural determinants. The cultural determinants recognise relationality of wellbeing in that is encompasses more than just the individual, it includes family, community, connectedness and knowledge. In this presentation, Ryder will examine challenges in addressing equity in injury, drawing on examples for her work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research. It will explore how clinicians, academics and researchers are part of the journey to bridge inequities in burns injuries.
