This session will explore the changing role and importance of teamwork to the quality and safety of burns care in the Emergency Department.

What started as a small clinical improvement project, has led to a deep review, and change in reception and resuscitation of major burns patients in our Emergency Department. We will look into the development of a major burns guideline, callout process, implementation of a checklist, organisation of equipment, and how the education processes brought it all together. How it helped us to build an integrated multi-disciplinary Burns team and made us succeed in our common goals. Insertion of a nasogastric tube is currently our best proof of concept. But the best outcome is how the work demonstrates what teamwork across different units can do to optimise practice!
